Thermofisher ChemiSEM
This project was a 3D visualization and explainer of an electron microscope product by Thermofisher. The product was delivered to me as a CAD, which was converted into quadrilateral geometry and deconstructed for animation. Materials were built and rendered in Redshift for Cinema4D.
A silly, but notable detail are the waves in the background of the set. The director at the time wanted some background art that would imitate the waveforms produced by the SEM, and articulate or warp to accent transitions.
To make this happen in C4D, I build a custom plugin in Houdini that took a spline input and wrapped a procedurally generated sine form around it. I exposed parameters that allowed you to animate the period and amplitude of the sine in C4D, which is what gives us the controlled motion you see in the video. Exposed texture inputs made it possible to duplicate and color each wave individually.
