Adidas x Prada TetraCube
I joined a small team of 3D animators, creative directors, and robotics engineers assembled by DotDotDash to complete a kinetic LED sculpture installation that would be the feature of an ongoing Adidas and Prada creative collaboration. Each artist, including myself, animated sequences to be re-projected onto a pair of branch-type tetracubes formed out of mounted LED tiles. The LED tetracubes were mounted to robotic arms that we also had the option of directing, by way of animating our own rigs that the engineer would then attempt to reproduce. After some experimentation, I settled on two looks: A sequence that gave the illusion of the tetracubes as two parts of a rubix cube, and one that broke the cubes into intermingling tetris pieces. The hardest part was really just wrapping my mind around the multiple dimensions that I was animating in; 3D space, real space, and re-projected UV space all needed to be compensated for in order to sell the illusion.
